Diesel Engine Rebuild in Jackson, MS

Wilkerson's runs in-house diesel engine rebuilds on Cummins, Detroit Diesel, CAT, and Paccar engines at our Jackson, MS shop. Inframes, full overhauls, head jobs, injector work. The decision to rebuild a $40,000 engine is the biggest call an owner-operator or small-fleet operator makes. We don't take it lightly — and we don't sell you the rebuild if the truck shouldn't get one.

Most rebuild conversations start the same way: hard starts, blow-by past the dipstick, oil consumption climbing, power loss that won't come back. We tear the truck down to where the data tells us, write you a real estimate based on what we actually find — not a catalog quote — and then put it back together with our own written warranty backing the work.

Sometimes the right answer is “don't rebuild this one.” If the rest of the truck can't earn back the rebuild cost, we'll tell you. Saving you from a bad rebuild is worth more to us than the rebuild revenue.

What's included

Everything we do on a engine rebuild visit.

  • Full diagnostic before teardown

Compression, leak-down, oil analysis, fault history. We confirm rebuild is the right call before anything comes apart.

  • Inframe overhaul

Pistons, liners, rod bearings, oil pump in-chassis. Lower cost than a full out-of-frame, faster turnaround.

  • Full out-of-frame rebuild

Engine out, every wear surface inspected, machine work coordinated with our shop partners. The right call on high-hour engines.

  • Head & cam work

Head replacement, valve service, cam and lifter work — when the bottom end is healthy and the top end isn't.

  • Injector & fuel-system

Injectors, high-pressure pump, lift pump, common-rail work. Often the right fix before a full rebuild.

  • After-treatment coordination

If a failed engine has fouled the DPF or upstream after-treatment, we handle it under the same job.

  • Written warranty

Our own written warranty on the rebuild — we stand behind the work. Plus a direct line to the general manager if anything goes sideways.

Signs you need this

When to call us.

  • Blow-by past the dipstick or breather
  • Oil consumption climbing month over month
  • Power loss under load that doesn't return
  • Hard starts even in warm weather
  • Oil pressure dropping at idle
  • Visible coolant in the oil or oil in the coolant

Brands we work on

If it runs diesel, we've probably worked on it.

Pricing & estimates

No surprises on the invoice.

Rebuild cost varies widely by engine family, mileage, what's actually worn, and inframe vs. out-of-frame scope. We don't quote rebuilds blind — we run a teardown diagnostic, then write you a real estimate. No teardown work is billable until you see and approve the number.

Frequently asked

What people ask before they bring the truck in.

Tap any question to expand the answer.

It depends — engine family, inframe vs. out-of-frame, what we find on teardown. A Cummins ISX inframe runs different from a Detroit DD15 full overhaul. We don't quote rebuilds blind. Bring the truck in, we'll run a teardown diagnostic, and you'll see a real number before any billable work happens.

Depends on the rest of the truck. If the cab, chassis, transmission, and after-treatment have life left, rebuild usually wins. If the truck has multiple high-cost failures coming up, we'll tell you to replace. We've walked customers away from rebuilds — that's not a sales loss, that's the right call.

Inframe overhauls typically 7–10 days. Full out-of-frame, longer — depends on machine-shop turnaround on the block, head, crank. We tell you the realistic timeline up front, not the optimistic one.

Our own written warranty, plus the Wilkerson family policy: if a rebuild fails inside the term, we make it right. No re-diagnosis charge.

Cummins (ISX, X15, ISB, ISL), Detroit Diesel (DD15, DD13), CAT C15, Paccar MX-13 and MX-11. If your engine isn't on the list, call — we may still take it on.
